When You Need a Designer
I’m part of a pretty cool network, if I do say so myself. If you need a designer, developer, photographer, PR pro–you name it, if it’s somewhere in the field of creativity, marketing, or communications, chances are I know someone.
Cheri Grothaus, C2 Communication + Creative
I met Cheri right at the beginning of my business. We’ve partnered on a wide variety of projects, from collateral to direct mail to logos. She’s fast, efficient, and creative.
1. In one sentence, what do you do?
I'm a freelance graphic designer.
2. For what kinds of organizations?
I do design work for a variety of organizations, including a number of nonprofits. A number of my clients are small agencies who outsource design work.
3. What is the stickiest challenge for your clients?
Many of my clients are looking for ways to distill complex information into easy (easier) to understand visuals. Budgets and quick turnarounds are continuous challenges as well.
4. When it comes to design, what are the biggest 'mistakes" you see?
The biggest mistake I often see is when people don't consider the audience...they write or design things from "their" perspective without thinking about the recipient/viewer. PowerPoint is a great example. Many people use too many words on slides when a visual or a simple bullet would get the point across in a much more succinct way.
5. What are people doing right?
My clients are working hard to ensure their company brand/personality is consistent throughout their communications.
6. What's one thing you would say: "be sure you're doing this."
"Think about the audience," "Less is more," and "Be true to your brand" are phrases that often come to mind. I'm a stickler for brand compliance and encourage my clients to be as well.
